Many of our images carry a backstory. Take the two hitchhikers, for example—they were heading to the legendary Monterey Pop Festival! With no shoes, no shirts, and likely no money, they embodied the free spirit of the time. One of them, wearing a T-shirt, was dodging the draft, and they were living in an abandoned cabin in Big Sur. When they heard about a three-day music festival in Monterey featuring Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, and The Who! Back then, if you needed shoes, someone would have a pair for you; the same went for food, shelter, or anything! It was an incredible time filled with good vibrations, kindness, and community. It was a time when people had love in their hearts, music in their ears, and a spirit of freedom. Love and peace was in the air.
